Clinical and Translational Research
Cluster Hiring of Biomedical, Nanomaterials and Systems Faculty
The College of Engineering at Wayne State University seeks to hire up to six tenure-track faculty in the area of biomedical, nanomaterials, and nanosystems engineering. The cluster hire is part of WSU’s interdisciplinary Nano Center currently comprising more than 20 faculty members. The positions will be hired at the assistant or associate professor levels for the 2013-14 academic year. The selected faculty will become members of one of the following departments based on their qualifications and interest: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, or Electrical and Computer Engineering and may be jointly appointed in the Department of Clinical and Translational Sciences (DCaTS).
Preference will be given to candidates with background that complements existing strengths in the following areas:
1) Biomedical and chemical engineering approaches to targeted imaging and drug delivery, particularly those in perinatal medicine with a focus on drug delivery in pregnancy.
2) Biological response of bio/nanomaterials on cellular biology and organ/tissue functions.
3) Tissue engineering for organ regeneration. and
4) Micro/nano sensors, implants and electronics for disease diagnosis and treatment, health monitoring and rehabilitation.
The successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in an engineering or related field with an outstanding record of scholarship. Candidates are expected to develop federally funded research programs that are nationally and internationally recognized, and participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Wayne State University is a comprehensive research university that offers generous and competitive start-up packages. The emphasis of DCaTS is to apply discoveries generated through research to the development of trials and studies in humans. Cardiovascular Medicine
Mid-Level Tenure Track Faculty Position
The Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Clinical and Translational Science (DCaTS) at Wayne State University are seeking applicants for a mid-level tenure track faculty position in clinical and translational research. Individuals with a track record of established, federally funded research that is translational in nature and focused on cardiovascular medicine (hypertension, acute coronary syndrome, non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, and cerebrovascular disease), resuscitation, or cardiac arrest are encouraged to apply. Applicants with a solid history of implementation and dissemination of clinical trial protocols, particularly those with a bench to bedside component will be given highest priority.
The emphasis of DCaTS is to apply discoveries generated through research in the laboratory and in preclinical studies to the development of trials and studies in humans. DCaTs will be housed in the new integrative Biomedical Research Building that is designed to encourage the development of novel methods and approaches to clinical and translational research, enhance informatics and technology resources, and improve training and mentoring. DCaTS provides a highly interactive environment with multiple opportunities for multidisciplinary basic and translational research. Anticipated rank for the selected applicant will be at the Associate Professor level with a joint appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine and DCaTS. Pediatric Obesity
Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Faculty
The Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Clinical and Translational Science (DCaTS) at Wayne State University (WSU) are seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in Fall 2013, specializing in the area of pediatric obesity. Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree in behavioral sciences, nutrition, biochemistry, epidemiology, genetics, or a closely related field, and at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience. Candidates with demonstrated independent research experience and funding records will receive the strongest consideration.
The candidate is expected to work closely with interdisciplinary faculty members affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Program in Obesity Research and Education at WSU. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to teach graduate or undergraduate nutrition related courses and direct graduate students or post-doctoral fellows in their obesity-related research projects.

Assistant/Associate Professor
The Wayne State University School of Social Work and the Department of Clinical and Translational Science invite applications for a jointly appointed position, tenure track or tenured, with specialized knowledge in health or mental health and clinical and translational research. Candidates must have expertise in one of the following areas: chronic illness, depression, maternal and child health, health disparities, health care utilization or access, or medical social work. Successful candidates will be able to engage in interdisciplinary research and have knowledge and skill in clinical research and evidence-based treatment. Experience in building partnerships between research and practice constituencies is also deemed essential. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an established record of outstanding and consistent publications and significant external funding to support his/her research and that of doctoral students; and a record of service as a chair or committee member of doctoral students’ dissertation committees. Candidates must be prepared to teach in the School of Social Work and the Department of Clinical and Translational Science. As part of a considerable expansion in the area of computational systems biology and bioinformatics, Wayne State University (WSU) is recruiting several new faculty at all levels. These positions are joint appointments between a newly created Department of Clinical and Translational Science (DCaTS) and other departments, including but not limited to the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics in the School of Medicine and the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering, Positions are with tenure or on a tenure track and rank will depend on the qualifications of the applicant. Appropriate start-up resources will be made available for each position to allow the candidate to establish a competitive externally funded research program.

Mott Center for Human Growth and Development) within DCaTS. These positions add to our recent hires in the same area, and complement very strong existing research groups within these departments.
Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain vigorous, externally funded research programs that integrate with existing computational, genomic, and personalized medicine efforts, as well as participate in education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
